About Sharanya
Hailing from the vibrant city of Mumbai, India, Sharanya Natrajan is a multifaceted artist whose talents span the realms of playback singing, songwriting, vocal coaching, music production, and entrepreneurship. One of the high points in Sharanya’s career came when Google recognized her groundbreaking initiative, the Indian Anthem Project – #IAProject, by featuring it as one of the top 36 Google success stories worldwide. This accomplishment underscores her innovative spirit and dedication to the craft.
Playback Singing
In December 2018, Sharanya marked her entry into the world of playback singing with the release of her debut song, ‘Bhag,’ featured in the Bollywood feature film ‘Khamiyaza.’ Few other Bollywood work includes singing in ‘Neerja’ (2016) film starring Sonam Kapoor, ‘Gulaab Gang’ (2014) Anubhav Sinha’s film starring Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit and English rap vocals for a Haryanvi film.
This year 2023, She has sung 2 debut playback songs for a Telugu Feature film called Marem Cheddam, soon to release.
OTT Platforms and Streaming Success
Sharanya’s musical prowess extends to OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Zee 5. Her rendition of ‘Making it Work’ in season 2 of ‘Immature,’ a series by TVF on Amazon Prime, and her contribution to ‘Indori Ishq’ on MX Player, garnering over 300 million views, exemplify her versatility and widespread appeal.
Ad Jingles and Rhymes
Sharanya’s versatile voice is not confined to the stage and screen. Her contributions to 100+ TV & Radio Ad jingles, including those for Jio, TataCliq, Colgate, Peter England, St. Ives Face Care, Enrich Salon, Raahein, Be Free, Bridgestone tyres, Jumbo King, Crossword, VVD Gold, and many others in English, Hindi and Tamil, showcase her adaptability and commercial appeal. Her melodies have been featured in theaters, television, and digital platforms. She has also sung for more than 200 Rhymes for Cocomelon, Little Baby Bum and the kids exclusive album called ‘Sing along’.
Independent Music & Songwriting
Beyond playback singing, Sharanya is a prolific independent artist. Her debut independent song, ‘Aye Ranjha,’ released worldwide in October 2018, and is accessible across major music platforms, including iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, and Google Play. Her band, ‘Soulnest,’ gained an opportunity to internationally release their live composition, ‘Kaahe Bisrave/ Aint Nobody,’ produced by ARIA Award-winning star producers Lachlan Magoo Goold and Yanto Browning, known for their work with renowned artists like Ed Sheeran, Midnight Oil, and Kate Miller-Heidke. Baawri, Ek Lamha and What have you done to me are a few independent collaborations with a few exceptionally talented musicians streaming on various platforms. Currently she is working on a few singles, collaborations and on her Debut English EP Album called ‘For You’. Her musical journey continues to evolve, and the future promises new horizons.
Live Performances and Collaborations
Sharanya’s stage presence is magnetic. She has been on stage since 2010 with various bands such as Casual Affair, Soulnest, Sherry and friends, Ragahaus, Spacehuggers, The Hues, Neonheads, Athanasia, Cirkles, Kickstart freedom, etc. She has graced performances with renowned music director Amit Trivedi at the live music launch of the movie ‘Queen,’ starring Kangana Ranaut, at the Kala Ghoda festival. Her talent led to her being launched as one of the seven stars of Stellar Music at Bluefrog.
Rosha Music Studio
In a recent venture, Sharanya and her multi-talented artist-musician husband, Robin Joseph, founded Rosha Music Studio in Mumbai. This creative hub is dedicated to recording, composing, producing, and mixing music that captivates and inspires.
Voice Genie – Vocal Coaching and Mentorship
In addition to her thriving music career, Sharanya is deeply committed to nurturing emerging talents. Through her initiative ‘Voice Genie,’ she imparts her expertise in voice techiniques, performance and songwriting to professional actors, singers, and voice artists. For over six years, she has contributed to the development of singers and artists at the Theme Music Institute, where her students have excelled in LCM – London College of Music Exams and Trinity Exams, gaining admissions to prestigious institutions worldwide like Berklee, Royal College of Music, etc.
Diverse Training and Expertise
Sharanya’s journey is enriched by her extensive training and mentorship experiences. She completed a special vocal program and foundation course majoring in western vocals at the KM Music Conservatory founded by the legendary A R Rahman in Chennai, India. Her dedication also led her to train under Mr. Shantanu Hudlikar, the chief sound engineer at YRF Studios, and under Gilles Denizot (Germany) at Operalab India. Her list of esteemed coaches includes luminaries such as Hratsjuhi Aramian, Matthias Lenardt, Jennifer D’souza, Sharvi Yadav, Akshay Sharma and many more.
Diverse Interests and Entrepreneurship
Beyond music, Sharanya’s interests have led her to explore different facets of the entertainment industry. She holds a diploma in classical dance (Bharata Natyam) and a degree in management studies. In 2010, she founded Xpressions Events Pvt. Ltd., organizing numerous high-profile events, including charity galas and concerts.
